Steve and Betty Bishop
U.S. Directors of Solid Rock Global Ministries
Steve and Betty have been married for 50 years, have 11 grand children and 4 great grand children. They have worked in various churches since they were teenagers. Both have taught different levels of Bible study to new converts as well as to mature believers. Betty hosted a Bible study group in their home as Steve taught the word for several years.
In 2002, God opened a door for them to minister in Kenya at “The Farm” through Agape Children’s ministry. God captured their hearts for the Luo people of Western Kenya. They served in Matoso for four years before learning that Agape was going to divest themselves of “The Farm”. After much prayer and encouragement from friends, they felt that God wanted them to pursue taking ownership of “The Farm” to continue the work they had been involved in for several years. God miraculously provided the funding thru a family in Canada and the property was transferred from Agape Children’s Ministry to a new trust. Donna’s Memorial Trust is working in conjunction with the Solid Rock Ministries – Kenya to continue and expand the ministry of the established vocational training school in Matoso Kenya.
God has given Steve and Betty a strong desire to work with the Tuckers to see that the ministry is successful in its efforts to help the poor and lost of Kenya. Based out of Gainesville, Texas, the Bishops have a unique message to share with local churches about the Spiritual and physical successes of the ministry in Kenya.
They are both very excited about the new direction that God has called them to during this time of their lives.
Tom and Marg Tucker
Solid Rock Global Ministries - Kenya
Canadian On-Site Directors of Vocational Training Center - "The Farm"
Tom and Marg Tucker have been ministering in Africa since the early 1990’s. Tom and Marg lived in northern Ontario Canada when they committed their lives to the Lord. They and their two children were baptized at the same time and began a life style change that would lead them on a great adventure. Eventually their journey with God settled in a ministry in Kenya.
Tom has been an active worker his whole life, involved in many different careers. He never understood why he had such a desire to go into so many different types of work. After he gave his heart to Jesus, he was invited to go on a mission trip to East Africa. During that trip, God gave he and Marg a strong desire to work in Kenya. God worked miracles to help them get to Africa where they became friends with Darla Calhoun, the founder of Agape Children’s Ministry.
Tom’s many career experiences began to make sense once they started working with Agape, because he and Marg were asked to help develop a vocational training center. Tom and Marg found the land and began the process of building a school on the shore of Lake Victoria in Matoso, Kenya. Each one of Tom’s career skills came into play during the construction of the new school. He was able to direct every area of construction because he had years of experience in each area required to successfully build-out the school project. Upon completion of the construction phase, they became the directors of the Agape Vocational Training Center. Tom and Marg have devoted their ministry to the physical and spiritual training of the lost boys in Kenya. They have also helped in the physical construction of many churches and then evangelizing the lost to help build those churches spiritually.
We are very excited to see them move back into the administration of this ministry.
Bear & Tracy Jessen
Solid Rock Global Ministries - Kenya
Directors of Youth Ministry
Gary (also known as Bear) and Tracy are coming up on 18 years of marriage. They have one, incredible, 16-year-old daughter, named Hope, who has accompanied them to Kenya; she is currently completing her senior year via homeschooling.
Tracy, the daughter of Tom and Marg Tucker, spent 2 ½ years in Kenya with them back in the 90s. Bear has honed his computer skills working on the Space Shuttle Program at Boeing, and later on the TransCanada Pipeline at their Houston office. His knowledge and experience will be an asset to Tom & Marg here at the vocational school.
Bear, Tracy, and Hope had attended their home church, Living Faith Outreach, in Dickinson, Texas for 14 years. There, they served in a myriad of ministries such as: food pantry, children’s church, youth, worship team, men’s & women’s groups, van ministry, and leaders of the married couple’s ministry for several years.
The Jessen’s hearts have always been towards missions from day one. They have a heart for people, especially children and youth. So it’s no surprise that they will be preaching to youth in the local church and schools, as well as teaching children’s Sunday school. They will also be helping Tom & Marg at the vocational school in many capacities. They give thanks to God for allowing them to follow their dream.
