Background and History
Matoso -- The Beginning
The Farm in Matoso Kenya started in the heart of Tom and Marg Tucker in cooperation with Darla Calhoun. Darla began a ministry for street boys which included education in a school setting. However, some of her students were not capable of continuing into higher learning institutions and were left without skills needed to step into manhood and employment. Working with Darla, Tom and Marg developed a plan to train those boys in a trade – enabling them to be successful in the working world. Thus “The Farm” was inaugurated.
Over the years, many students have graduated from the school and moved into adulthood with a spiritual foundation and an education that carried with it a government certificate of completion for their particular trade. Many of the boys come back to the school to say thank you for their education. One of our helpers did a survey of the Matoso district and found that a large majority of the tradesmen were graduates of The Farm.
After 15 years of successful ministry at the vocational school, Agape decided to pursue other ministry areas and release the Matoso ministry to Solid Rock Ministries - Kenya. Tom and Marg Tucker have chosen to work with the new group.
